AI has improved quite a lot in terms of the fidelity, bandwidth, and consistency across its all its modes of output. But what has hardly changed at all is the quality of its "creativity", or "taste", to use the popular term. To put it bluntly, its writing and visual art is as creatively bankrupt as it has ever been. It's easy to tell when AI has been prompted by a more discerning visual artist, because the results, while still having some hallmarks of AI production to them, are much more interesting. And as far as I'm aware, AI music has only really been taken to by demographics without discerning taste (geriatric Facebook users).

Within fields like math, the discourse seems cloudier--at least, to a layperson like myself. A souped-up version of Google's Gemini did score at a gold medal level for the 2025 math olympiad, though its significance is contested. It is capable of finding solutions to difficult problems and what I believe are some minor novel additions but I harbor reservations about whether it will reach "creative" parity with the eminent human mathematicians.

Perhaps artistic prowess is in fact the domain of the gods, and not a gift bestowed on unensouled vessels...
